My name is Kayla Duclos, XDA’s current alumni chair! This year we have decided to have alumni day during fall semester! I’ve sent out some evites but I wanted post on here in case I don’t have everyone’s contact information. This year we will be having a brunch on Sunday, October 25th (the day after the Duke game) at 11am. My committee and I have been working hard on the details and can’t wait for the planning to be executed! Please let me know if you have any questions via my email firstname.lastname@example.org and to submit your reply via http://xdaalumni.rsvpify.com. Thank you so much for your time!
My dearest sisters,
Please forgive my absence in our time of mourning.
The loss of our founding sister Angi Ma Wong has affected all of us greatly.
Many of you shared your wonderful thoughts and memories of this incredible woman. Thank you so much for keeping her kind and generous spirit alive through everything that you do.
Please take a moment to read her obituary and what a sweet sister wrote about her.
It is with, also, a heavy heart that our sister, Molly Smith, lost her baby boy Easton James Smith at 37 weeks into her pregnancy. As a mother, sister, aunt and friend I am heartbroken for my family. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting this fabulous sister, she was a born mother. She is that woman you could go to for your maternal void.
Her family has set up a go fund me page for Molly and Michael to help offset the cost of Easton’s cremation and memorial service so that Molly and Michael won’t have to struggle anymore than they already are. Anyone who is interested in helping please follow the link below.
Unfortunately Molly and Michael are not the first couple to experience this type of tragedy; nor will they be the last. Their story of incredible strength and faith should be Easton’s legacy.
Easton’s Celebration of Life Service was held this Thursday at West End Assembly of God at 1:00 in the gym. All the families wore blue for celebrate his life.
Our sister Sarah Stec Williams needs our prayers. Her daughter, Anna, is 4 years old and will be having her 2nd open heart surgery on Friday, May 29th. Please send your thoughts and prayers towards her, the family and the Duke medical team.
The family is also doing a t-shirt fundraiser where people can purchase a t-shirt to wear on May 29th to show support. The funds raised from this fundraiser will go towards Team Anna in the 2015 American Heart AssociateHeart Walk in September. The link is https://www.booster.com/teamanna
Please help in any way that you can.
Leslie Hintz ’06 and a few friends have been running in honor of the fallen 32 Hokie angels and now they would like to open it all to join them.
This event is a 3.2 mile fun run/ walk in remembrance of the 32 victims of the VT shooting and would love any support. The event will take place April 19,2014 in Washington, D.C. All proceeds will go to Active Minds. Active Minds is a wonderful charity that helps bring mental health awareness to college campuses nationwide. If you aren’t in the DC area there is a donate option on the website too, every little bit helps make a difference!
If you are interested in participating or would like to donate please visit http://www.myactiveminds.org/site/TR?fr_id=1190&pg=entry
After a short term mission trip to Nicaragua, Amy Hirabayashi ’12 realized her calling. Serving the local communities she witness raw poverty at a heart-wrenching level. Her courage, strength and faith to give up all that is normal to us is truly amazing. Amy is on a World Race to help those who need it most. Please donate to help her with her mission trip to Albania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana, India, Nepal, Mongolia and China.
